Some of you may have noticed that I mentioned my desire to move to UT in my "Hello" to this forum. Despite the "slow market" in my area we made a deal with a buyer today. In fact, if all goes according to plan, we are shooting for a closing date of around Nov 5th. They want to get in (corporate relocation) and we want to get out (Think Snow!!!!!). More importantIy, the buyers appear to actually have the $$$$$ to close the deal. I just may make most of the season out there yet.

Peter, what city are you moving too? What will be the closest resorts to you, and how far of a drive will they be?

I am moving to the Salt Lake City area. It is likely that I will settle in or near Sandy, which is a suburb of Salt Lake City (about 5-7 miles south of the city center). I will be closest to Alt/Snowbird and Brighton/Solitude. Those will be between 15 - 18 miles away. Park City, The Canyons, and Deer Valley will be about 25 miles away. Snowbasin (above Ogden) is about 40 miles and Powder Mountain is about 60 miles away. There are also a number of smaller areas, like Sundance also within the distances given above. Other than Powder Mountain, nothing is over an hour away. Nirvana!

Not all the Mormons are in UT, but yes, it is the predominate religous group. Approximately 62% of the population identifies itself as members of the "Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints" ...aka Mormons. However, the percentage of non-Mormons is growing rapidly. I will be driving up the statistics for "Atheists." My motto is: "Live and let live."

I only wish they did rule. However, I will stop at that, since I don't know what this forum's "non-skiing related discussion parameters are."

The Apres-ski forum was set up for all off topic discussion and possible flame wars. If any threads get out of hand, and way off topic, they will be moved there. Smile

I just got my October 2006 edition of "Ski" magazine today. Take a look at page, 162 (Snowbird) page 166 (Solitude) page 168 (Alta) and page 170 (Brighton). I couldn't possibly state the reasons for moving to within 20 miles of these four ski areas any better then the way it is stated in the magazine. Nuff said.
