#1 |
| Hi guys, I have never been skiing before but am dying to try it. I'm 16 years old and just under 6 feet tall. I can pretty much handle any run at my local mountains of North Vancouver, BC and most runs that aren't up in the bowls of Whistler Mountain on my snowboard. I would love to get some information of what kind of skis I should look for and possibly some tips. Thanks! |

The best skis for you? RENTALS!
Most mountains these days have a good rental selection that is forgiving to the beginner at a reasonable price.
Tips? LESSON! You should get one for your first time out - trust me you will thank me for it! |

The newest generation of beginner ski's are quite awesome. They turn so damn well, they are shorter, more shaped and just a joy to ride.
I would get a recommendation on a beginner ski from the shop and stick to that model until you just start skiing blues well, then start start renting a different ski every time you go to see what the differences are then stick the one you like best.
If you have any buddies that are really good skiers, ask for mentoring. They wont want to hang out with you on the easy stuff all day long, but get them to coach you for 30 mins a day or an hour. Sometimes the ski instructors dont care enough, or they have a class size that is too big, and a private coach will get your learning faster.
My girlfriend never took a ski lesson, I taught her personally and I had her skiing single black diamonds on her 5th day!
It took me 3 years of trial an error learning by myself to do that! |
